Jim was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He graduated with honors from Texas Tech University before entering dental school at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. As a senior dental student he received the "General Practice Award" for his demonstration of a commitment to excellence in dentistry and patient care. He was also inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental fraternity for being in the top ten percent of his 1983 graduating class.
A devoted family man, Jim and his wife Andrea live in Carrollton with their two boys. Like most parents, their time away from the office is spent actively involved in youth sports and school activities. Whenever possible Jim spends time outdoors. He enjoys golf, skiing, boating and camping, and the challenges of both bass and trout fishing.
